Boycott Papa John’s – No More 1% Pizza!
Update, 16 November 2012: See “John Schnatter & Papa John’s – Images of the Douche Supreme“
On April 19, 2012, Papa John’s Pizza founder John Schnatter held a private, $1000-a-ticket fundraiser for Mitt Romney in Schnatter’s Louisville, KY home.
Schnatter has a net worth of $240 million and owns a stake in 3400 Papa John’s franchises around the world. In 2011, the chain earned $1.22 billion in sales — an increase of 14% over the year before. (You can see PapaJohn’s “Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2011 Results” announcement on the company’s site.)
That Schnatter supports Romney is hardly a shock: Schnatter is a 1%-er who falls into the income bracket that Romney is pledged to protect and serve.
So far, it’s business as usual in a democracy.
But here’s the irony. Logic suggests that the people who bought $1.22 billion of pizza and chicken wings in 2011 were overwhelmingly working-class.
So what’s John Schnatter doing with your money? He’s working for the election of a candidate whose presidency would insulate the rich and cause the most suffering among middle-class and working-class Americans.
At least for the next seven months or so, it’s still a democracy, so Schnatter is free to support the candidate who most closely represents his real view of the world, the media manipulations of his folksy, down-homey advertising notwithstanding.
But we’re also free to withdraw our support from his company. We can stop buying John Schnatter’s Pizza for the 1%.
Here’s what you can do:
1) BOYCOTT PAPAJOHN’S PIZZA!
2) Write to John Schnatter and tell him why you won’t be eating any more of his 1% Pizza!
